MyPhone Rio Pixie

MyPhone Rio Pixie: 8MP front cam, selfie stick, selfie app

The MyPhone Rio Pixie has recently been unveiled, offering 8-megapixel cameras on both front and back. If it were up to MyPhone, this selfie smartphone should be your ultimate choice when vanity is of utmost importance.

We here at TechTambayan never much cared about seeking outside recognition for our likeness, but we are aware there are people who just can’t get enough of sharing their self-imposed beauty and blissful ignorance. The MyPhone Rio Pixie should be perfect for these folks, what with a front camera that has its own LED flash and 8-megapixel resolution to clearly reveal the excessive satisfaction of said folks towards… well… themselves.

It’s also worth pointing out that we live in a digital age. So who cares about our real looks, when we can just edit our imperfections? The MyPhone Rio Pixie has face-altering features through the bundled Fotoku selfie app and a “face beauty” mode in its camera app. Haters (of fake faces) gonna hate, am I right?

Taking selfie shots can be addictive and infectious, which is why some people want to join in. They don’t necessarily have to squeeze tightly in a small space to be part of a selfie shot, because the MyPhone Rio Pixie comes with a free selfie stick. It’s the perfect tool when one’s arm just can’t satisfy one’s (and the group’s) self-absorption.

Other smartphones love to brag about performance and physical design, but the MyPhone Rio Pixie seems underwhelming in those respects. It’s powered by an unspecified 1.3GHz quad-core processor (probably a MediaTek) and has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Screen size is a bit small at 4.8 inches diagonal, but it at least features an AMOLED panel, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and 720p HD resolution.

Dual SIM capable, the MyPhone Rio Pixie runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, can reach 3G speeds and has a 2300mAh battery. All these specs would have been alright had MyPhone given its new handset a reasonable price. Alas, this selfie smartphone costs Php7,599. If you could spend a bit more, the MyPhone Infinity 2 Lite offers better specs for Php8,399.

The MyPhone Rio Pixie is headed to all company stores and kiosks nationwide.
