The Blackview BV5000 is for the adventurous, the klutz and other people who don’t like smartphones that turn into expensive bricks after an accidental drop/spill or two.
We have to warn you before you proceed, though; stay away from the Blackview BV5000 if you’re after the likes of the iPhone and Android flagship smartphones with sleek bodies. The BV5000 has a relatively thick profile at 13.3mm and weighs 229g–that’s quite heavy for a 5-inch handset. There’s also the non-conventional design of the protective case: plastic corner bumpers, metallic side rails and Asahi tempered glass.
The Blackview BV5000 is intentionally made that way, because that’s how a rugged smartphone should be. Blackview claims its smartphone is waterproof, dustproof and resistant against bumps and scrapes.
However deep underwater or degree of dust exposure the smartphone can withstand, we don’t know. Blackview hasn’t revealed the exact International Protection (IP) code regarding the BV5000’s ruggedness. (Update: To be specific, the phone has an IP67 rating.) In any case, we can guarantee that this phone is less susceptible to damage than your average smartphone.

What we like about this phone
The Blackview BV5000 is a phone of many uses. It’s not only useful in harsh environments but also a good companion for your other smartphones. Equipped with a 5000mAh (hence the name), it can function as a power bank and charge other devices while leaving some power for itself.
What we dislike about this phone
The other specs of the BV5000 leave a lot to be desired, especially when other similarly priced handsets have better hardware, such as bigger memory and higher resolutions for the display and cameras. Blackview mostly likely had to make these compromises in order to improve the phone’s durability and still achieve an affordable price point.
What others think about this phone
Andi of GizChina, per his official review, has similar sentiments in that the phone is bulky but at the same time durable. He initially had problems when charging other phones using the BV5000. Other users of the phone are advised to get the latest updates to fix this problem.
